Amanda Knox (born Amanda Marie Knox on July 9, 1987 in Seattle, Washington) is an American woman who was convicted of the murder of Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Umbria, Italy in 2009. Knox served four years of a 26-year sentence before being acquitted of all charges on October 3, 2011. On March 26, 2013, her acquittal was overturned by the Italian Supreme Court, meaning that Knox can be prosecuted again for Meredith’s murder. In March 2015, that conviction was overturned, and Knox was considered not guilty by the Italian courts.
