Paul Dano (born Paul Franklin Dano on June 19, 1984 in New York City, New York) is an American actor and producer. Paul grew up in New York City, before his family moved to Wilton, Connecticut. Paul graduated from Wilton High School before attending Eugene Lang College. Paul had been acting from a young age, appearing in Broadway roles as a youth and having a major debut at age 12 in a revival of the play, Inherit the Wind. His first major film role came when he was 16, appearing in the 2001 movie, L.I.E. Paul got greater attention with his role in the critically acclaimed film, Little Miss Sunshine, in 2006. He also played identical brothers Eli and Paul Sunday in There Will Be Blood, earning a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Paul made appearances in Gigantic, The Good Heart, and Knight and Day. Paul had a huge year in 2013, receiving multiple award nominations for his roles in 12 Years a Slave and Prisoners. In 2014, Paul played a younger version of Brian Wilson in the biopic Love & Mercy, receiving a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. In January 2016, Paul played the role of Pierre Bezukhov in the BBC adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace.

Since 2007, Paul has been dating actress and playwright Zoe Kazan. He is the lead guitar player and vocalist in the band, Mook. His father is of Slovak descent, while his mother is of Austrian, Swedish and Bohemian Czech ancestry.
