John Kasich

Bio:
John Kasich (born John Richard Kasich on May 13, 1952 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania) is an American politician. After attending public schools in Pennsylvania, John enrolled in Ohio State University. As a college freshman, he wrote to then President Richard Nixon, expressing his admiration and requesting a meeting. Nixon met with John in December 1970. After graduating in 1974, John found work as a researcher for the Ohio Legislative Service Commission. John ran for the Ohio state senate in 1978. He was elected and became the youngest person ever to hold the position. In 1982, John was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He served for nearly thirty years,  leaving after finishing his 2000 term. Afterwards, John worked for Fox News, hosting Heartland with John Kasich until 2007. During that time, he also worked as an investment banker and the managing director of Lehman Brothers until the firm collapsed in 2008. In 2009, John filed papers to run for Governor of Ohio. In 2010, he won the Republican nomination and defeated incumbent Democrat Ted Strickland in a very close race. In 2014, he was relected with 64% of the vote. In December 2014, John began a national tour, leading people to speculate that he would run for President in 2016. He announced his candidacy on July 21, 2015, but then suspended his campaign in May 2016.

Best Known For:
John Kasich is best known as a US Congressman from 1981-2001, the host of Heartland until 2007 and as the Governor of Ohio from 2010.

Personal Life:
John married Mary Lee Griffith in 1975. They divorced in 1980. He married his second wife, Karen Waldbillig in 1997. They have a set of twin daughters together: Emma and Reese.
