Anne-Marie Duff (born October 8, 1970 in Chiswick, London, England) is a British actress. Anne-Marie grew up in Southall, London, attending Mellow Lane School. At an early age, Anne-Marie developed an interest in acting, attending a local youth theatre. After overcoming her shy nature, she became hooked on performing. She was involved in an amateur theatre company as a teen, leading her to apply to drama schools. At the age of 19, she attended the Drama Centre in London. Her early career include theatrical roles in plays Uncle Silas’, La Grande Magia and a run as Wendy in a production of Peter Pan. In 1997, she made her television appearance on Trial & Retribution, following it up with roles on Amongst Women and Aristocrats. Her most noted television role is of Fiona Gallagher on the series Shameless. Anne-Marie’s movie career includes roles in 2006’s Notes on a Scandal, 2007’s Garage and in 2009, as Julia Stanley in Nowhere Boy. In 2015, she portrayed Violet Miller in the film Suffragette and Claire Church in the From Darkness television series.

Anne-Marie is the daughter of Irish immigrants. In 2007, she partnered with nine other female celebrities to take part in a campaign promoting awareness of domestic abuse in the United Kingdom. In 2006, she married Scottish actor and former Shameless co-star James McAvoy. The two welcomed their first child in 2010, a son named Brendan McAvoy. In May 2016, after ten years together, Anne-Marie and James announced their divorce.
