Amy Winehouse (born Amy Jade Winehouse on September 13, 1983 in Southgate, London, England) was an English singer and songwriter. Many of Amy’s uncles were professional jazz musicians, and her grandmother, Cynthia, was a singer. They influenced Amy as she grew up, encouraging her to pursue performing. Amy bought her first guitar when she was 14 and started writing music a year later. In the early 2000s, Amy was building a buzz among the recording industry due to her powerful voice and her signature retro look. In 2003, she released her debut album, Frank, which received positive reviews and multiple BRIT award nominations. She received international success in 2006 with the release of her album, Black to Black. It was the best-selling album in the UK in 2007 and the song “Rehab” reached the top ten in the UK and US. Back to Black earned Amy give Grammy awards, including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Amy’s success was soon undercut by her battles with substance addiction. She died from alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011.

Amy married Blake Fielder-Civil in May 2007. Their relationship was plagued with violence and drug abuse, with Blake reportedly claiming he introduced Amy to crack cocaine and heroin. The two were separated when Amy began dating actor Josh Bowman in Jan. 2009. Amy and Blake finalized their divorce in 2009. Reg Traviss, a film director and writer, was in a relationship with Amy from 2010 up to her death.
