The Masked Singer season 7’s second round of celebrities had the ultimate showdown during the April 14 episode. The Ringmaster, Armadillo, and Miss Teddy were left in the competition, and only one was going to make it to the finale. After incredible performances, the Ringmaster reigned supreme. Armadillo and Miss Teddy were eliminated and revealed their identities to the world.
This season, the show is putting its masked contestants into three different groups: The Good, The Bad, and The Cuddly. Each round will send one masked celebrity to the finale. This will lead to an epic Masked Singer showdown for the Golden Mask in the season 7 finale.
The first group contained Firefly, Thingamabob, Ram, Cyclops, and McTerrier. The second group featured Ringmaster, Armadillo, Miss Teddy, Hydra, and Lemur. Every week, The Masked Singer will unmask one celebrity (or more) from either Team Good, Team Bad, or Team Cuddly. HollywoodLife will be updating this post each week with the identity of the revealed celebrity on The Masked Singer. The contestants boast a combined 112 film appearances, 15 Grammy nominations, eight Emmy nominations, seven Super Bowl performances, two Hollywood Walk of Fame Stars, and two World Records.
Duff Goldman Is McTerrier
The first contestant of season 7 to be unmasked was McTerrier. The McTerrier was revealed to be renowned pastry chef Duff Goldman. Duff is the executive chef of the Charm City Cakes shop, which has been featured in the Food Network show Ace of Cakes. Duff has also been seen on Food Network Challenge, Iron Chef America, Duff Takes the Cake, and more.
The 47-year-old was a member of Team Good as McTerrier. He hit the stage and performed a lively rendition of Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend.” However, Duff nearly fell off the stage after his performance. Duff’s McTerrier mask came entirely off instead.
The panelists were shocked by what had happened and quickly turned their heads so Duff’s identity wasn’t revealed prematurely. None of the panelists caught a glimpse at Duff’s face, and The Masked Singer team was able to put Duff’s mask back on so the show could go on. The Masked Singer panelists managed to still not guess Duff’s identity. Instead, names like Mike Myers, Ewan McGregor, and Flea were thrown around.
When it was announced that McTerrier was being eliminated, Duff hilariously rolled around on the floor in protest. The final guesses from the judges were Jeff Ross, Flea, Mike Myers, and Ewan McGregor. The judges were absolutely stunned by the first reveal of season 7.
Joe Buck Is The Ram
The second masked singer to be eliminated was the Ram. The Ram was revealed as legendary sportscaster Joe Buck. Since the late ’90s, Joe has covered the NFL and Major League Baseball for FOX. Ironically, on the same day as his Masked Singer revealed, it was announced that Joe was leaving FOX to go to ESPN and be the lead play-by-play announcer for Monday Night Football.
The 51-year-old was a member of Team Bad as the Ram. For his first performance, Joe sang “I Want You To Want Me” by Cheap Trick. The initial guesses from the panelists were Jim Harbaugh, Matthew Stafford, and even Peyton and Eli Manning. Joe performed “Learn to Fly” by The Foo Fighters for his second performance. The panelists wondered if Jason Sudeikis, Ty Burrell, and Jason Biggs could be the Ram.
The Ram and Firefly had to face off in a duel towards the end of the episode. Joe performed embraced his inner country with a rendition of “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Ultimately, it wasn’t enough to save him from elimination.
Jordan Mailata Is Thingamabob
NFL player Jordan Mailata was revealed as Thingamabob during the March 23 episode. He plays for the Philadelphia Eagles. Jordan had all the panelists stumped when it came to his identity.
Jordan became an instant fan-favorite in the first batch of episodes. He made Ken Jeong cry with his gorgeous rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” and was full of energy for his performance of MKTO’s “Classic.”
Jordan is known for his prowess on the football field, but The Masked Singer has allowed him to showcase his truly amazing vocals. “It’s really made me think about that, about releasing my music,” he told HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY. “I’m just a sh*tty writer. I can’t write music to save my life. We’ll see what happens. It’s in the cards now. The whole experience of being on The Masked Singer gave me the confidence that I could perform and that I do have a decent voice.”
Jorge Garcia Is Cyclops
Thingamabob was unmasked along with Cyclops during The Masked Singer’s first double elimination of season 7. Lost and Hawaii Five-0 alum Jorge Garcia was revealed as Cyclops. Over the course of the first few episodes, Jorge had a blast with his performances of “Flashdance” and Creed’s “My Sacrifice.”
The actor loved getting the opportunity to sing in the Cyclops costume and be a part of The Masked Singer. However, it wasn’t so easy performing in the costume. “You definitely had to do a lot of having breath control, which is a thing for singing and just doing the most out of creating personality with puppet hands and that kind of thing with limited vision,” Jorge told HollywoodLife. “It was an interesting challenge but really enjoyable just because I love the costume so much. It just looks so cool that I just wanted to do it justice and give it as much life as I could.”
Christie Brinkley Is The Lemur
Christie Brinkley was the first celebrity to be unmasked in Round 2 of season 7. Her first clue package contained hints like a guitar lamp, a magazine, eye cream, and a “rolling stone.” She sang an energetic rendition of Carole King’s classic “I Feel The Earth Move.”
When asked by Nick if she had a lot of experience dazzling an audience, Christie replied dramatically, “I like to think I do. I love the lights, cameras, and action.” The panelists guessed celebs like Geri Hall, Jennifer Aniston, Goldie Hawn, and Melanie Griffith.
Penn & Teller Are Hydra
Magicians Penn & Teller were revealed as Hydra during the April 6 episode. For their first performance, Penn & Teller sang “Hey Soul Sister” by Train. Before their duel with Armadillo, they performed “Sharp Dressed Men” by ZZ Top. Their mega clue — a deck of cards of all jokers– in the April 6 episode was the biggest hint as to their identity. Celebrity guest panelist Nicole Byer actually guessed Hydra’s identity correctly!
HollywoodLife spoke EXCLUSIVELY with Penn, who revealed that Teller actually used two voices during their performances to throw off the panelists. “Since my voice is damaged from years and years of the carnival and talking all the time… Teller, no one knows what he sounds like, so Teller did two of the voices and I did one,” Penn said. “I thought that was just brilliant. He said one is what we call ‘the Rex’ as Rex Harrison and he said his other is his real singing voice. I thought he did a beautiful job.”
Dog The Bounty Hunter Is Armadillo
Dog the Bounty Hunter was revealed as Armadillo at the end of the April 14 episode. For his final performance, Dog sang a touching rendition of “Amazing Grace” in honor of his mother. Dog is known for hunting down criminals, but he seemed like a natural on stage during his performances.
“I have a black belt in martial arts. I’ve arrested over 8,000 fugitives, so I’ve kicked a lot of okole [Hawaiian for butt],” Dog told HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY. “We, the team and FOX, tried to throw in the songs, in the interview, I presented the shaka — it’s called ‘throw a shaka’ — four or five times. We tried to really load up the detectives and the judges with more info than they’ve ever received. It’s one of the first times where I got to lay down the clues instead of finding them because that’s what I do, right? And I was like, ‘Oh, I could get away from anybody. This is so much fun.’ I was amazed that I went as long as I did without getting number one, booted, and number two, guessed.”
Jennifer Holliday Is Miss Teddy
In addition to Dog The Bounty Hunter’s unmasking, Jennifer Holliday was revealed as Miss Teddy in the show’s double elimination. The legendary singer’s three performances were absolutely sensational. She performed Taylor Dayne’s “Tell It To My Heart,” Demi Lovato’s “Tell Me You Love Me,” Duffy’s “Mercy.”
Jennifer’s clues as Miss Teddy included a photo of Eddie Murphy and Supreme Court justices, revealing that she only ever had one audition, and noting that she’s won a Grammy. By the end of Miss Teddy’s run, several of the panelists guessed that she was Jennifer!
The Masked Singer season 7 airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on FOX. Stay tuned for all the celebrity reveals of the season!
