Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are entering the world of podcasting. Spotify announced on Tuesday, December 15, that the royal couple has landed a multi-year deal with the audio streaming service, partnering with the couple’s audio production company Archewell Audio, according to CNBC. The details of the deal were not disclosed by Spotify, but the name of their production banner seemingly offers a sweet tribute to the couple’s one-year-old son, Archie.
Fans of the young pair already have a lot to look forward to. Prince Harry and Meghan will host and produce a string of podcast series for the coming years. The two will kick off their podcast reign with a forthcoming holiday special, with fresh episodes and a new series slated for a 2021 start, per Insider. The same day that the deal was announced, Meghan and Harry released a three-minute audio teaser to introduce Archewell Audio to Spotify subscribers.
“One of the things my husband and I have always talked about is our passion for meeting people and hearing their stories,” Meghan shared in the clip. “That’s what this project is all about,” Harry chimed in, adding that their future podcasts and their production company’s purpose is “to bring forward different perspectives and voices that, perhaps, you haven’t heard before and find our common ground.” Meghan also shared that this is an opportunity to “celebrate kindness and compassion” by hearing different voices throughout the world.
The couple’s holiday special will be out “later this month,” Harry teased in the clip. “We’re talking to some amazing people. They’re going to share their memories that really helped shape this past year,” Meghan revealed. It’s the next major project for Meghan and Harry after the couple chose to take a step back from royal duties at the beginning of 2020.
Their latest business venture comes only a few short months after Meghan and Harry reached a deal with Netflix in September 2020. The Netflix deal will allow the couple to produce documentaries, films, “scripted shows” as well as children’s programming at an estimated deal between $50 and $100 million. Clearly, Prince Harry and Meghan’s reign in the world of media and entertainment is just getting started.
