  • Olivia Rodrigo is a former Disney star who took on the music world by storm in 2021 with her debut album, Sour.
  • Olivia revealed the full tracklist for Guts on August 1, 2023.
  • Olivia’s sophomore album, Guts, will debut on September 8, 2023

It’s been two years since Olivia Rodrigo burst onto the music scene with her debut LP, Sour, which included the hit singles “drivers license,” “good 4 u”, and “deja vu.” The first two singles spent a combined nine weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while “deja vu” peaked at No. 3. Following her impressive impact on the charts and pop culture music, Olivia walked home with a myriad of titles during the 2022 awards season, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance at the Grammys. After a well-deserved break, Olivia is ready to release her sophomore project.

The 20-year-old pop star announced her second album, Guts, on June 26, 2023, and revealed it will debut on September 8 via Geffen Records. “For me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life,” she explained in a statement. “I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 — it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that’s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully, the album reflects that.” Weeks later on August 1, Olivia unveiled the tracklist for Guts.

What Is The Name Of Olivia Rodrigo’s New Album?

Despite fan theories suggesting that Olivia’s follow-up to SOUR would be called SWEET, she announced that her second album would be called Guts.

In 2021, fans thought they had deduced Olivia’s intentions when she collaborated with the South Patch Kids candy brand. One TikTok user, Cody Johnathan, noted that none of the original songs she used to sing on her social media accounts were used on SOUR (h/t Refinery29).

“When I was listening to Sour, I was surprised that literally none of the songs were love songs, they were all post-breakup [songs],” he said. “So, my theory is that there’s a second album coming called Sweet that has all of the sweet parts of a relationship and not the sour ones.”

Other fans latched onto the idea that Sweet would be the counterpart to Sour since South Patch Kids’ tagline – “First They Sour, Then They’re Sweet.” (BTW, those 2 lbs. Olivia Rodrigo-branded boxes are going anywhere from $150-$500 on eBay.)

When Does Olivia Rodrigo’s New Album Come Out?

Olivia Rodrigo spills her Guts on Sept. 8, 2023.

Other albums scheduled for that date (as of June 2023) are Ashley McBryde’s The Devil I Know, Romy’s (of The XX) Mid Air, Royal Blood’s Back To The Water Below, Julia Engelmann’s Splitter, Alabaster DePlume’s Come with Fierce Grace, Coach Party’s KILLJOY, and the posthumous release of Sparklehorse’s Bird Machine.

What Songs Are On Olivia Rodrigo’s New Album?

Olivia announced on June 13, 2023, that the first single off her second album was called “vampire” and would be released on June 30. Alongside a photo of the artwork for it, the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actress wrote, “My new song ‘vampire’ is out Jun. 30! you can presave now. so excited for this, ahhhhh!!!!!!!” Fans who couldn’t wait that long could call the Heartbreak Hotline (323-622-SOUR) to hear a preview of the song.

After Olivia announced her new single, Taylor Lautner, who starred in the popular Twilight vampire franchise, commented on her post. “K WHO TF BIT YOU,” he commented under the art, which showed two lavender bandages crisscrossed on her neck where a stereotypical vampire bite would be. Olivia was only five years old when the first installment of the franchise debuted in Nov. 2008.

A few days later, the singer and actress took to social media once again to reveal some of the song’s lyrics. A photo of a seemingly handwritten note read, “How do you lie?” three times.

The single is now available to stream as well as purchase on CDs and 7″ vinyl. Both physical options have an “a” side with the song, and a “b” side with the demo version of it.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Releases Guts Tracklist

On August 1, Olivia started out teasing her tracklist with a video she released on Instagram. The video featured Olivia rummaging around her room, making her bed, and more before she sat down at her typewriter. She typed “GUTS tracklist,” and then the video stopped.

The singer then released a second video on Instagram that unveiled the 12-song tracklist for Guts. The song titles are:

  1. all american b***h
  2. bad idea right?
  3. vampire
  4. lacy
  5. ballad of a homeschooled girl
  6. making the bed
  7. logical
  8. get him back
  9. love is embarrassing
  10. the grudge
  11. pretty isn’t pretty
  12. teenage dream

What Is Olivia Rodrigo’s New Album Sound Like?

Olivia was seemingly bursting with excitement when she announced her new album on social media, writing, “i am so proud of this record, and I can’t wait to share it with you all!” Sonically, Guts was produced by Daniel Nigro, who also helmed Sour. The duo hopes to replicate the success of her first album, which “entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 and would go on to become the longest-running debut album in the chart’s top 10 of the 21st century—and the first to spend an entire year in the upper echelon,” the label said when announcing the new album. “SOUR also entered the charts at No. 1 in the U.K., Canada, Ireland, Norway, Holland, Sweden, Australia, and New Zealand. Upon release, SOUR scored the most U.S. audio streams for a female debut album ever and broke the record for the most-streamed album in a week by a female artist on Spotify.”

Olivia also released a statement about what went into writing Guts on her website the day she announced the big news. “I made the bulk of this album during my 19th year on this earth. a year that, for me, was filled with lots of confusion, mistakes, awkwardness & good old fashioned teen angst,” she penned. While fans will have to wait until her album debuts to get a full sense of her teenage angst, she revealed she recorded the project in New York City and Los Angeles.

Who Is Featured On Olivia Rodrigo’s Next Album?

Sour didn’t have any features on it, and Guts appears to be the same. If fans suspect Taylor Swift – who Olivia called her “biggest idol and fans were writing inspiration” – to make a cameo, they might need to take a seat. There is a growing fan theory that Olivia and Taylor have had a falling out.

The first suggestion of an alleged tiff is that Taylor added Sabrina Carpenter as the opener to the Latin American leg of her Eras Tour. Sabrina will open for Taylor in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Sao Paulo. Rodrigo fans will know that “Drivers License” was allegedly written about her ex, Joshua Bassett, pursuing an alleged romance with Carpenter. However, the relationships were never confirmed, and Olvia was spotted chatting with Sabrina at the 2022 Met Gala, hinting that the beef had been squashed.

However, as Elite Daily points out, the falling out between Swift and Rodrigo might be over money. In 2021, fans noticed that Swift, Jack Antonoff, and St. Vincent were given credit for Olivia’s “deja vu,” which she confirmed was inspired by Taylor’s “Cruel Summer.” However, during the 2022 Grammys, their names were reportedly left off the credits for “Deja Vu,” which the Grammys cited as a submission error.

Since then, fans have noticed that the two haven’t publicly supported each other. It’s more than likely that the drama is overblown, especially since Taylor has gone out of her way to tell Swifties that they need to calm down.

Fans have patiently awaited the new release from Olivia, who had been relatively quiet since her Sour World Tour wrapped in July 2022. Earlier in 2023, she had fans excited when she confirmed new music was on the way. “working on so many new songs I’m excited to show u! thank u for everything,” she wrote on her Instagram Story in Jan. 2023, per Billboard.
