Ruth Madoff (born Ruth Alpern in Queens, NY on May 18, 1941) was the director of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities and wife of Bernie Madoff. Whne she was 18, she marreid Bernie and in 2009, the two were worked up to $138 million, plus an estimated $700 million in interest for their business. In 2011, Ruth did an interview and revealed that she and her husband had attempted suicide on Christmas Eve 2008, just weeks after the public had discovered their fraud. They both took “a bunch of pills.” After losing everything, she moved in with her sister in Florida, then to her late son Andrew’s Connecticut home.

Personal Life:
Ruth Madoff met Bernie while at Far Rockaway High School, and they married in 1959. She was attending Queens College, while he was at Hofstra University. In 1964, they had their first child, Mark; and then in 1966, they had Andrew. Two years to the day after Bernie went to prison to the day, Mark committed suicide in his home. Then four years later, Andrew passed away from lymphoma.
