Neymar (born Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior on February 5, 1992 in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil) is a current forward for Barcelona and the Brazil national team, which he also captains. At the precocious age of 19 he was voted South American Footballer of the Year in 2011. The same year he was awarded the FIFA Puskas Award for Goal of the Year. In 2015 he was voted third best soccer star in the world at the FIFA Balon d’Or finishing behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi who won the award. He is widely recognized as the successor to the throne of Messi, and learned the art of playing soccer barefoot on the streets of Brazil. At 17 he earned his first professional contract with Santos F.C., and after scoring 136 goals in just five seasons in Brazil he was transferred to Barcelona for $102 million.

Personal Life:
Neymar’s father, also called Neymar, has been his greatest influence in life. “My father has been by my side since I was little. He takes care of things, my finances and my family,” he’s quoted as once saying. However, Neymar ran into trouble for unpaid taxes with the Spanish authorities in 2015. Neymar is a father himself, his son David Lucca was born in August 2011. He’s not with the baby’s mama Carolina Dantas any more.
