Gabby Giffords (born Gabrielle Dee Giffords on June 8, 1970 in Tucson, Arizona)is an American politician. Gabby represented the 8th congressional district of Arizona from January 3, 2007 to January 25, 2015. She resigned after surviving an assassination attempt just a week into her third term, on January 8, 2011. She was shot by Jared Lee Loughner outside of a Safeway supermarket where she was publicly meeting with constituents. She was brought to a rehab facility to help regain her ability to walk, speak, read and write after suffering from a traumatic brain injury from the gun shot wound. She now is a gun control advocate and has spoken recently on behalf of Hillary Clinton.

Personal Life:
Gabby is married to U.S. Navy Captain and NASA astronaut Mark Kelly. They married on November 7, 2007. She is a former member of the Arizona regional board of the Anti-Defamation League and volunteered in Houston following Hurricane Katrina. In 2011, Gabby, with her husband, published Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope.
