On the Nov. 12 premiere of Total Bellas, the pregnant twins, Nikki Bella and Brie Bella, were in the midst of their coronavirus quarantine in Arizona. Unfortunately, this became a bit of a problem for Nikki as her due date neared — because her plan was to have the baby back home in Los Angeles. Her anxiety over the birth plan intensified after hearing some scary news during an ultrasound in Arizona.
“I just didn’t get good news about Matteo’s heart,” she told her fiance, Artem Chigvintsev. “The whole thing was going great — they checked the two feet, the fingers, all that stuff. Everything seemed like it was going amazing. The technician was like, ‘I just need to go into the other room and finish everything up.’ And she came back and was she was like, ‘He has a speck in his heart, has anyone talked to you about this?’ And she goes, ‘I shouldn’t be telling you this because doctors aren’t here.'”
In a confessional, Nikki explained how terrified she was when she got the potential diagnosis. “The rush feeling that I got through my body was just….I was devastated,” she admitted. “You feel so helpless. What does a speck mean? Does it go away? Is it permanent? In my heart, I know this isn’t good and it’s just scary.” Of course, it didn’t help that Artem couldn’t even go to the appointment with Nikki due to coronavirus protocols that were in place at the time. “I just wish you were there,” she told him. “I’m sick of this whole situation.”
With the potential of Matteo having a heart issue, Nikki decided she would only feel better if she went and saw her actual doctor in person. Of course, that meant taking a six-hour drive to Los Angeles, but Artem was more than willing to do it. “We’re just nervous and scared that there’s something wrong,” Nikki explained. “We don’t know what kind of news we’re going to get. I just want to hear from my doctor exactly what’s going on.”
Luckily, there was nothing to be that concerned about. “Artem and I just had the anatomy scan and Dr. A looks over it and just says that the speck they saw could’ve been a sign that he’s going to have heart problems — like, his valves are growing incorrectly,” Nikki revealed. “But, after getting a second opinion, this is a natural thing. Eighty percent of babies have this. Some things grow faster then others, but they catch up. This is 100 percent normal. Artem and I just feel so much relief. We’re so happy. Thank God!”
Nikki wound up giving birth to her baby boy on July 31, with Brie welcoming her son, Buddy, just one day later. Nikki has not discussed whether or not Matteo has any health issues since his birth, but based on her social media posts, he sure seems like one happy and healthy little guy!
