Elizabeth Vargas (born Elizabeth Anne Vargas on September 6, 1962 in Paterson, New Jersey) is an award-winning American journalist for ABC News. Previously the anchor of World News Tonight, Elizabeth now anchors 20/20. Along with Bob Woodruff, she filled in on WNT while Peter Jennings battled lung cancer; they were named-cohosts when he passed away. She filled in for Bob in various positions, as well, after he got injured reporting in Iraq. On 20/20, Elizabeth covered high-profile stories, and was known for her masterful coverage of the Amanda Knox case and the Stubenville rape trials. The New York Times called her reporting of the Matthew Shepard case in 1998 “intellectually brave.” In 2000, Elizabeth won an Emmy for Outstanding Instant Coverage of a News Story for anchoring live coverage of the Elian González case.

Personal Life:
Elizabeth married singer-songwriter Mark Cohn in 2002; they divorced in 2014. Together, they have two sons: Zachary Cohn and Samuel Cohn. Elizabeth entered rehab in 2013 for alcohol addiction and anxiety. She released a memoir in 2016 about the issues.
