Susannah Mushatt Jones (born in Lowndes County, Alabama on July 6, 1899) was the world’s oldest person. She held the Guinness World Record after her 116th birthday in the summer of 2015. She lived in New York during the Harlem Renaissance, where she became a nanny to young children. During her life, she became very active in her neighborhood communities. She participated in the “tenant patrol team” for almost 30 years, before retiring. She also created a scholarship program for young African Americans to go to college. Susannah died in her Brooklyn residence at the age of 116.

Susannah Mushatt Jones is best known for holding the Guinness World Record for the oldest person lving. She often credited her long life to her loving family and eating bacon.
Personal Life:
Susannah was born into a family of 11 brothers and sisters on a farmland outside of Montgomery, Alabama. After finishing high school in 1922, she worked on the fields, growing fruits and vegetables for her family’s crop-picking business. She was married for a few years, but had no children.
