Steven Gerrard (born Steven George Gerrard on May 30, 1980 in Whiston, Merseyside, England) is a British professional soccer player. As a child, Steven began playing for his hometown soccer team, Whiston Juniors, when he was scouted by the Liverpool Academy. When he was 17, Steven signed his first professional contract with Liverpool. In 1998, he made his first-team debut in a Premier League match. Though he struggled with the team, Steven and the squad went on to win the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA cup in 2001. Steven and Liverpool continued to find success, winning the Champions trophy 2005 and the FA Cup in 2006. Steven made his International team debut in 2000, playing with England against Ukraine. He participated in the 2006 World Cup and was the squad’s top scorer. He and England returned for the 2010 World Cup, the most experienced player on the team. He was named captain of the 2014 World Cup England team. Steven played for Liverpool for over 16 years. In January 2015, Steven announced he would play for the Major League Soccer team, the LA Galaxy. He officially joined the team in July 2015, following the end of the 2014-15 Premier League season.

Steven married his wife, former model and fashion columnist Alex Curran, in 2007. They have three daughters together: Lila-Ella, Lexie and Lourdes. Queen Elizabeth made Steven a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2007. In 2008, he was involved in a brawl with two other gentlemen. Steven maintained his innocence and he was found not guilty in 2009.
