Kevin Ward Jr. (born June 1994 in Port Leyden, New York) was an American race car driver. He unfortunately lost his life on August 9, 2014 after a deadly accident with NASCAR champion Tony Stewart. During the race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in upstate New York, Kevin’s car crashed on the side of the track. He stepped out of the car and onto the track before being hit by Tony. Kevin died from injuries he suffered in the accident. Kevin began racing go-karts at the age of 4 near his hometown. He won his first Micro Sprint race in 1999. He finished second in his first race and won six championships and about 250 races by the age of 12, according to his website. Kevin was named 2012’s Empire Super Sprint Rookie of the Year. He was the driver of the Rider Racing Engines Powered #13 360 Sprint Car.

Kevin sadly rose to fame for the tragic accident on August 9, 2014. He lost his life at just 20 years old after Tony Stewart’s car struck and killed him at the Empire Super Sprints series event at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in upstate New York.
