Joshua Henry gets to play the iconic Gaston in the Beauty and the Beast musical special, which airs December 15 on ABC. The 38-year-old actor is one of the lead stars in the live Disney special, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the beloved animated movie. Joshua’s co-stars include H.E.R, as Belle, Josh Groban as the Beast, plus Rita Moreno, Martin Short, Shania Twain, and more. Joshua’s a Broadway superstar, so he should blow the audience away as Gaston.

1. Joshua was born in Canada.
Joshua was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada, but he was raised in Miami, Florida. He fell in love with performing as a child and performed in his high school play. He studied theatre at the University of Miami and graduated in 2006.
2. His career started on Broadway.
Joshua starred in In The Heights on Broadway in 2008, and from there he was just getting started. Some of Broadway shows he’s been in include Hamilton, Carousel, Waitress, and Into The Woods. He was the first person to play Aaron Burr in the U.S. tour of Hamilton.
3. He’s a Tony Award & Grammy Award nominee.
Joshua has received three Tony Award nominations, and one Grammy Award nominations, so far in his career. He earned Tony noms for his performances in The Scottsboro Boys, Violet, and Carousel. Along with the rest of the Carousel cast, Joshua got a Grammy Award nomination in 2019 for Best Musical Theatre Album, but they lost to The Band’s Visit.

Joshua’s first film role was in the Sex and the City movie. He most recently played actor/singer Roger Bart in Tick,Tick…Boom, with Andrew Garfield. On television, Joshua has appeared in Nip/Tuck, Army Wives, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
