Trai Byers (born July 19, 1983 on Kansas City, Kansas) is an American actor. Trai was born in Kansas City but finished his high-school education in Georgia. After completing his high school degree, Trai enrolled into the University of Kansas. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications. Trai also pursued his interests in acting with his studies, attending the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles. He received his Master’s in Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama. Trai ‘s early career includes roles in 2009’s low budget comedy horror Ceaser and Otto’s Summer Camp Massacre as well as Mookie on eleven episodes of All My Children. In 2012, Trai portrayed Alex Martin in the reboot of 90210. Trai’s major breakout role came in 2014, when he portrayed civil rights activist James Forman in the 2014 historical epic film, Selma. Trai’s portrayal garnished praise from the critics. He found similar success in 2015, joining the cast of FOX’s hit primetime drama, Empire. Trai’s performance as Andre Lyon helped turn the show into a smash success.
