Bill Simmons (born William J. Simmons III on September 25, 1969 in Marlborough, Massachusetts) is an American sports columnist for ESPN. After becoming known as the “Boston Sports Guy,” Bill landed a job as a guest columnist for ESPN in 2001, eventually becoming a lead writer. Bill also briefly worked as a comedy writer for Jimmy Kimmel Live! from 2003-2004. He’s written for ESPN The Magazine, and is also the Editor-In-Chief of ESPN-owned website Grantland.com. Despite working for the network for years, Bill and had several conflicts with ESPN, and in May 2015, he learned via a secondhand report on Twitter that his contract, due to expire in September 2015, would not be renewed.
