Angelique Kerber (born Angelique Kerber in Bremen, West Germany on January 18, 1988) is a German professional tennis player. After making her pro debut in 2003, she rose to prominence as an international tennis star, reaching the semifinals of the 2011 US Open, at which time she was ranked no. 92 in the world. In the following years, Angelique would go on to win eleven singles titles and three doubles titles on the International Tennis Federation Tour. In 2016, she won her first Grand Slam title, beating Serena Williams in the finals at the 2016 Australian Open. In February 2016, she achieved a career-high ranking of No. 2 in the world, making her the highest-ranked German and left-handed player on the World Tennis Association Tour. Following that win, she struggled in the Qatar Open and the Madrid Open, but found success by winning the Porsche Tennis Grand Priz and the Volvo Car Open. At Wimbledon, she advanced to the semi-finals and faced Serena’s sister, Venus Williams.
