Bio:
Kara McCullough (Born in Naples, Italy) was crowned Miss USA 2017, representing the District of Columbia. In the May 14 ceremony from Las Vegas, she beat out New Jersey’s Chhavi Verg and Minnesota’s Meredith Gould for the title. She helped DC have back to back winners, as the district’s Deshauna Barber was the reigning Miss USA 2016. She graduated from South Carolina State University with a degree in chemistry and works as a scientist for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Agency.

Personal Life:
Kara is the daughter of a a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy and was raised in Virginia Beach, VA. She wore her hair in her natural curls for the Miss USA pageant, instead of straightening them like she did when she became Miss Washington DC in Dec. 2017
Charitable Causes:
Kara has an outreach program for kids called Science Exploration for Kids, or SE4K, to help youngsters become interested in pursuing an education in science.
