The drought is over… almost! Five years after releasing her last album, and months of teasing, Adele is reportedly back in the studio recording new tracks. The news comes from former Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain, who spilled the beans on The Eddie Trunk Podcast on SiriusXM. “I just got to work on some new music for Adele,” the session drummer, who’s played for David Bowie, Bob Dylan, and Elton John, dished. “To hear that voice in my headphones was getting me chills. It was just so powerful and emotive.”

“She’s writing some new material with her songwriter Rick Nowels,” Matt said of the Grammy-winner. “She wanted to do it with some drums and so we just put our masks on, she was in the room — yeah, holy sh*t.” He told host Eddie Trunk that he was absolutely blown away by hearing the “Rolling in the Deep” hitmaker sing in person. “You know her voice, but to be across the room from somebody doing that, it’s just insane,” he marveled. “You hear it on the radio and whatever and you go, ‘Yeah, it’s really good,’ but to be in the room with these people and feel that energy, it’s just so heavy.

HollywoodLife has reached out to Adele’s rep for comment but did not hear back as of press time. This new material would be part of Adele’s first record since 2015, when she released the breathtaking album 25. Fans have been waiting with bated breath for the singer to deliver new music, but their prayers just haven’t been met yet. She’s responded to fans’ desperate pleas, though by not not shooting down rumors.

In August, she slid into a sweet fan’s DMs after they posted a photo of the singer to their Instagram Story and wrote, “Please release new music soon, we all miss you so much.” Adele’s response? “Your twitter account has entertained me all the way through covid. You look like so much fun! I’m absolutely chuffed you like my music. Keep loving your life, it’s so lovely and infectious to see from every angle.”

Fans thought for sure that Adele was teasing a new album back in June after she posted a throwback photo of herself on Instagram with no caption. “Teaser? Albums coming out today???!!!! Tell me now!!!!” an excited fan immediately commented. She shut it down quickly (but politely), seemingly noting that the pandemic was keeping her out of the studio.
