Despite experts warning Americans not to host large Thanksgiving feasts this year due to coronavirus cases being on the rise, Cardi B had more than three dozen people at her Turkey Day dinner. “12 kids and 25 adults over the holidays. It was lit,” the rapper bragged on Twitter. Her tweet received a lot of criticism from people who did not respect this seemingly careless behavior — especially from those who missed out on family time because they were following the expert advice.

On Nov. 29, Cardi returned to the social media site to issue a response to the backlash. “Sorry my bad, wasn’t trying to make nobody feel bad,” she explained. “I just had my family in my home for the first time and it felt so good and uplifted me. I spent soo much money getting every1 tested but it felt worth it. I wasn’t trying to offend no1.”

She went on to explain that those in her most inner circle are tested for coronavirus on quite a regular basis, too. “ME [especially] and everyone that works around me get tested literally 4 times a week,” she wrote. “I’m in the middle of work and every time we clock in we MUST GET TESTED!”
Still, many people pointed out that getting tested isn’t full proof, as the incubation period for COVID-19 could be several days after coming in contact with someone who has the virus (i.e. potentially after the test was given). Plus, there are so many people who also have to go to work but don’t have the means or ability to get tested so often. Cardi continued to clap back when comments about this flooded in. “People be trying too hard to be offended,” she wrote. “I wonder how they survive the real world.”
Cardi isn’t the first star to face backlash for hosting a large gathering amidst the coronavirus, though. In October, Kim Kardashian flew a large group of family and friends to a private island for her 40th birthday. She also insisted that they were all tested before the trip, but critics were still upset with her for flaunting her wealth like this during such a difficult time for so many. Kendall Jenner received similar criticism when she threw a big party for her 25th birthday on Halloween.
