Like Jim Carrey’s Grinch, Matthew’s version of the Grinch is equally hairy. His green eyebrows are out of control! Matthew is completely unrecognizable as the beloved holiday character. He completes his Grinch look with a red and white striped scarf. You’ve got to appreciate Matthew’s dedication to his Grinchy transformation.

Alongside Matthew, Denis O’Hare will play old Max, while Booboo Stewart will play young Max. Newcomer Amelia Minto will play Cindy-Lou Who. Producers have also assembled an ensemble of top musical theater actors from London’s West End to complete the cast.

Dr. Seuss’ beloved book centers around the reclusive Grinch who plots from his cave at the top of Mt. Crumpit to steal Christmas from the Whos in Who-ville. On Christmas Eve, the Grinch dresses up as Santa Claus and takes his loyal dog Max as a reindeer to travel to Who-ville so he can take all the Whos’ gifts and decorations. To his surprise on Christmas morning, the Whos are unfazed and celebrated the holiday with a heartwarming display of joy of love, which makes the Grinch have a change of heart.

The musical version will feature hit songs “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas” but also breathe new life into a timeless story. The two-hour production of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical! will air Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. from the Troubadour Theatre in London. A repeat of the TV musical will air Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
