The legacy of the “Prince of Darkness” will live on. Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Marston Green, England, Ozzy Osbourne first shot to fame in the 1970s as the electrifying frontman of Black Sabbath, a band that helped define heavy metal. With haunting lyrics, heavy riffs, and his unforgettable stage presence, Ozzy became a global rock icon.

After nearly a decade of groundbreaking albums with Black Sabbath, Ozzy left the group in 1979 amid highly publicized struggles with addiction. He quickly reinvented himself as a solo artist, releasing seven multi-platinum records — including Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman — that cemented his place as one of the most influential figures in rock history.

In the 2000s, Ozzy introduced himself to an entirely new generation of fans with MTV’s The Osbournes, which premiered in March 2002. The hit reality series offered an unfiltered look at life with his wife Sharon and their children Kelly and Jack, becoming a pop culture phenomenon and paving the way for a new wave of celebrity reality TV.

Though his career was marked by both triumphs and setbacks, Ozzy continued to perform for decades. In February 2023, he announced his retirement from touring due to health struggles, and on July 5, 2025, he gave his final concert — a powerful farewell show in Birmingham, where he reunited with Black Sabbath for one last time. Just weeks later, Ozzy passed away at the age of 76, surrounded by his family.
