Taylor Swift and Kanye West weren’t the only ones with bad blood at the Video Music Awards. Look back at the VMAs’ biggest feuds.
If you thought Taylor Swift and Kanye West were the only major feud to come out of the MTV Video Music Awards, think again. While their infamous 2009 clash remains one of the most talked-about pop culture moments of all time, the VMAs have long been a stage for drama, shade, and some unforgettable rivalries.
One of the most talked-about feuds in recent memory came in 2017, when Camila Cabello’s exit from Fifth Harmony was front and center. The “Havana” singer had left the group the year before, and during the VMAs, the four remaining members — Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui — sent a clear message during their performance. A fifth fake member joined them on stage only to be dramatically catapulted backward seconds later, a moment many saw as a not-so-subtle jab at Camila.
Over the years, other spats have added to the VMAs’ legacy of chaos — from Nicki Minaj calling out Miley Cyrus live on air in 2015 with her now-iconic “Miley, what’s good?” to Tommy Lee and Kid Rock’s physical altercation in 2007, and even Eminem’s on-stage confrontation with Moby back in 2002.
Though many of these stars have since moved on and mended fences, the tension-filled moments continue to live on in VMA history. Scroll through the gallery to see photos from the most memorable feuds that have played out at the MTV VMAs.
