It’s an incredibly sad and trying time for the McGlashan family. Nick McGlashan has sadly died at the age of 33 years old, according to TMZ. Nick reportedly past away on Sunday, December 27, in Nashville, TN. A cause of death has yet to be determined for the longtime star of Deadliest Catch on Discovery Channel. 1) Nick was a longtime cast member on Deadliest Catch. Nick first appeared on Deadliest Catch in 2013, roughly at the age of 25. He continued to appear on the long-running Discovery Channel series until 2020. In total, Nick appeared in nearly 80 episodes of the series. His last appearance came in the September 22 episode “Everything Changes.” Deadliest Catch first premiered in April 2005 and chronicles the adventures of Alaskan crab and fishermen as they take on one of the deadliest professions in the world.

2) His family has a history of working at sea. Nick comes from a long line of family members who have worked on boats. His great uncle was one of the first men to work on the inaugural boat in the United States’ crab industry, according to TMZ. Two of Nick’s aunts were also in the crabbing business. One of them died at sea, per the outlet.
3) Nick started crabbing at a very young age. Nick went into the family business at the age of 13 years old. He worked on Cape Caution as well as Summer Bay — both of which were featured on the series. Over the course of his time on the show, he amassed a loyal following. He garnered over 12K followers on Twitter and roughly 13K on Instagram.
5) Nick struggled with addiction. There was a period on the show where Nick was not among the cast due to his struggles with addiction. He worried the crew and his family members, but eventually became sober in 2017, using his platform to inspire others to get clean, as well. “All I ever wanted to do was be a fisherman, and I lost that,” Nick was quoted saying by Anchorage Daily News in May 2017. “I lost the ability to work at sea because I forgot how to live on land.”
