After just one season on Prime Video, My Lady Jane has been canceled, per Deadline. The historical fantasy series follows the character Lady Jane Grey in an alternate version of 16th century England, where Ethians (humans who can take animal form), and ordinary humans known as the Verity co-exist. As cousin to Edward VI, Jane is next in line for the throne and is coerced by her mother to marry Lord Guildford Dudley.
Hollywood Life has all the details about My Lady Jane‘s short-lived time on Prime Video, below.
Why Did Amazon Cancel ‘My Lady Jane’?
According to multiple outlets, the series was axed due to low viewership. Upon its June 27, 2024, release, though, the reception for the show was positive. The series’ Rotten Tomatoes score reached 92 percent, for example. So, fans are wondering why a highly rated production wasn’t renewed.
After news of its cancelation made the rounds on social media, online users weighed in about Amazon’s decision to gut the show.
“imo My Lady Jane was (significantly) better than Bridgerton s3, and I’m just so BAFFLED that people will watch the latter for the period drama romance but not the former [sic]!!!” one X user tweeted, adding, “How is there an audience for one and not the other?!”
Others also compared the series to Bridgerton‘s third season, with another user tweeting, “people need to understand that even though bridgerton has more streams it doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily a BETTER show [sic].”
Who Played Lady Jane Grey?
Actress Emily Bader played the titular character. Shortly before the eight-episode series was canceled, Emily was cast to play Poppy in the upcoming adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation opposite co-star Tom Blyth.
