Jeremy Renner was deemed a real-life superhero. The Marvel Cinematic Universe actor — who has also starred in a slew of other film roles, from American Hustle to Wind River — shocked the world when news broke of his hospitalization on New Year’s Day, 2023, after a nearly fatal snowplow accident. Thanks to his remarkable recovery, Jeremy is back at work filming season 3 of his series, Mayor of Kingstown, but will he reprise his action-packed role as Hawkeye in Marvel?
The Avengers: Endgame star answered this question during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, which was published on Wednesday, February 7.
Will Jeremy Renner Return for a ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2?
When asked whether he would suit up as Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, ever again, Jeremy responded to the publication, “I don’t know. I don’t know the answer. The answer is ‘yes,’ if I get a phone call and they want to do it, whether it’s season 2 of Hawkeye the series, or something in the Marvel universe in cinema.”
Is Jeremy Renner Reprising Hawkeye in Other Marvel Movies?
Since Jeremy revealed he wants to play Hawkeye in either the Disney+ show or in another MCU movie, he doubled down by saying, “‘Yeah,’ is the answer. If I’m welcome back, I’m always gonna say, ‘yeah’”
Since he pointed out that Disney has to “welcome” him back to filming, Jeremy emphasized that he is not aware of whether or not fans could see his character on screen again. When asked if Marvel has called him up about it, Jeremy replied, “Not that I know of. I’ve been so focused on recovery, and now being in Mayor of Kingstown. We’ll see.”
Since he is back on set of his Paramount+ series, Jeremy was asked if he is able to work on multiple projects now that he has physically recovered from his snowplow accident.
“All I can focus on is this: doing television is quite arduous. It’s long hours and a lot of heavy lifting,” the Academy Award nominee pointed out. “So, I’m just focusing on this right now, and will see how I come out at the end of it. Because my number one priority still is my recovery and strengthening and just getting better, internally and externally, every day. And it has to be, to be able to go to work and participate in life in the world again. I’m allowing my body always to dictate what I can and cannot do in my life.”
What Happened to Jeremy Renner?
On January 1, 2023, Jeremy was run over by his snowcat at his Nevada home. The contraption weighed over 14,000 pounds and crushed part of him, while his nephew quickly tended to him along with a few of their neighbors. Jeremy was airlifted to a local hospital and, less than three weeks later, he was released. In the following weeks and months, Jeremy updated fans on his recovery, sharing videos and photos of his progress by initially walking with a cane to eventually being able to walk and run on his own.
Within months of his hospitalization, Jeremy appeared at public events and on talk shows to discuss his progress. While speaking with THR in February 2024, he revealed that he was motivated by doctors guessing that he wouldn’t be physically active again.
“I love when they say that,” Jeremy noted. “I love that the doctor says, ‘This guy’s not gonna walk again, or if he does, it’ll be in two years and he’s gonna walk funny.’ I love when people say this. Even my own physical therapist is like, ‘You know what, you’re never gonna be able to run under a five-second 40,’ I’m like, ‘F you, it’s going to happen, I’m gonna do it in six months, watch this.’ I love when somebody tells me that — it’s just gonna give me more energy to do it and do it even better. I already challenge myself anyway, and that’s also part of my recovery, as a competitor.”
