Juan Manuel Santos (born Juan Manuel Santos Calderon on August 10, 1951 in Bogota, Colombia) is the 32nd and current President of Colombia. He is an economist and a journalist with degrees from University of Kansas, Harvard, and London School of Economics. In 1991, Juan was appointed by President Cesar Gaviria Trujillo as the first Minister of Foreign Trade of Colombia. In 2000, he was appointed by President Andres Pastrana Arango as the Minister of Finance and Public Credit. Juan rose through the ranks during the presidency of Alvaro Uribe Velez and in 2005 he founded and led the Social Party of National Unity that backed Velez’s politics. In 2010, Juan preceded President Velez and was elected President of Colombia. He was reelected in 2014. On October 7, 2016, it was announced that Juan is the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in negotiating a treaty with the guerrilla groups in Colombia.

Juan Manuel Santos is part of the well-established and influential shareholding family, with ancestors who were well-known martyrs of the Independence of Colombia and newspaper owners. Juan first married film director and TV host, Silvia Amaya Londono, but they divorced three years later. He then married Maria Clemencia Rodriguez Munera, an industrial designer. They have three children, Martin, Maria Antonia and Esteban.
