Joel Embiid

Bio:
Joel Embiid (born Joel Hans Embiid in Yaoundé, Cameroon on March 16, 1994) is a professional NBA basketball player for the Philadelphia 76ers. After attending the University of Kansas for one year he was drafted into the NBA as the third overall pick in the 2014 draft by the 76ers. Joel is the third Cameroonian-born player to be selected into the NBA and he is the highest selected player from Cameroon.

Joel was signed as a rookie to the team in 2014, but had to miss the 2014-15, and 2015-2016 seasons due to injuries. He returned to the court full time for the first preseason game of the 2016-17 season, where he started at center and performed better than expected. In the 76ers first regular-season game of the 2016-17 season, Oct. 26, 2016, he made 20 points and made another impressive performance against Oklahoma City Thunder. Joel is expected to be a player to watch in the 2016-17 season as a 22-year-old player.

Personal Life:
Joel Embiid was born to military officer, Thomas Embiid. His mother’s name is Christine, and he has a younger sister, Muriel. Joel’s brother, Arthur passed away in a car accident in Africa in 2014. He was discovered at a basketball camp, and moved to the United States to pursue a career in basketball at the age of 16.
