Bio:
Ice-T (born Tracy Lauren Marrow on February 16, 1958 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American rapper and actor. Ice-T’s early life was plagued with tragedy, as experienced racism at a boy and losing his mother to a heart attack when he was in third grade. His father died similarly when he was 12, and he grew up with an aunt in South Los Angeles. Though never affiliated with an actual gang, Ice-T associated himself with The Crips as a teen. Around that time, he started to develop his interests in music. After a four year stint with the Army, Ice focused on becoming a musician. In 1982, Ice released his first single, “Cold Wind Madness.” It became an underground success, as did his 1986 song, “6 in the Mornin’.” His debut album, Rhyme Pays, was released in 1987 and was the first hip-hop album to carry an explicit content sticker. In 1991, Ice released O.G. Original Gangster, considered one of the definitive gangsta rap albums. On O.G., Ice introduced his heavy metal band, Body Count, which led to Ice and Body Count going on the first annual Lollapalooza tour in 1991. In 1992, their self-titled album was released, along with controversy over the song, “Cop Killer.” Ice continued to release music, his latest being 2006’s Gangsta Rap. Ice-T is a successful actor, first appearing in Breakin’ in 1984. He had roles in New Jack City, Surviving the Game, and Tank Girl. Since 2000, Ice has portrayed Fin Tutuola on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
