Phil Simms

Bio:
Phil Simms (born Philip Martin Simms on November 3, 1954 in Springfield, Kentucky) is a former American football quarterback and current television sportscaster. Phil grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, graduating from Southern High School before attending Morehead State University. While playing for the Morehead football team, he scored 32 total touchdowns, 25 interceptions and a 48.9% completion percentage. The New York Giants picked Phil in the first round of the 1979 NFL draft. Though Phil first hated being drafted by the Giants, he would play 14-years with the team. During his career with the Big Blue Wrecking Crew, Phil would lead the team to two Super Bowl championships — Super Bowl XXI and XXV. In Super Bowl XXI, Phil completes 22 of 25 passages, threw 3 touchdowns and was named the MVP of the game. He used the now famous phrase, “I’m going to Disney World!” after winning the game. Phil underwent shoulder surgery after the 1993 NFL season. Though the surgery was successful, the Giants released Simms during the offseason. Phil then decided to retire. After his NFL career, Phil joined ESPN’s broadcasting crew, before taking a job with NBC’s team to cover Super Bowl XXX and Super Bowl XXXII. In 1998, he moved to CBS and partnered with Jim Nantz to lead the CBS’s broadcasting team. He, along with Jim, will cover Super Bowl 50 in 2016.

Personal Life:
Phil and his wife, Diana, have three children together: NFL quarterback, Chris Simms; NFL quarterback Matt Simms; and daughter Deidre. He became fond of New Jersey while playing for the Giants. In 1995, his jersey was retired by the Giants in a game against the Dallas Cowboys.
