Chicago Med season 6 returns Jan. 6 with a brand-new episode. Our favorite Chicago doctors and nurses are still fighting to save lives amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The last episode featured Ethan being named the new Head of Emergency Medicine. HollywoodLife talked EXCLUSIVELY with Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider about what’s next.
Ethan will face challenges in his new role. “One is that with the demands of the pandemic, their resources are stretched very thin. He has to allocate staff and watch the budget, and it often puts him in conflict with his other colleagues in the ED,” Andrew told HollywoodLife. Diane added, “Right off the bat, April and Ethan will have a conflict over the COVID ward.”
Natalie and Crockett’s connection has continued to grow, and their relationship will take a turn in the episodes to come. “It’s definitely going to deepen, and we’re going to find out a lot more about Crockett,” Diane said. Andrew also noted, “We meet his ex-wife. He will develop a relationship with Natalie, but it, too, will have some bumps.”
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage out across the world, and Chicago Med will still be incorporating the pandemic into the show. “We’re still going to have the COVID ward. We won’t have as many stories revolving around it, but it’ll still be part of our stories. We’re also going to be doing stories about people with post-COVID symptoms, like heart problems,” Diane said.
As for what else is ahead on the show, Andrew revealed that are “some very interesting psychiatric delusions that present mysteries to Dr. Charles. We have a complicated experimental surgery — ex vivo — where you actually take the organs out of the body to operate on them. We will always have these medical mysteries, these cases that are surprising, and they seem to get all the rarest diseases in Chicago.” Chicago Med airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
