Chicago Med returns for season 6 on Nov. 11. The doctors and nurses are facing one of their biggest medical obstacles yet: the COVID-19 pandemic. HollywoodLife talked EXCLUSIVELY with executive producers Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider about what’s ahead in season 6. First and foremost, the show will not shy away from the current health crisis.

“As a hospital show, we have to reflect the real-life effects of the pandemic,” Diane told HollywoodLife. “At the same time, other medical cases keep streaming into our E.D., and the hospital must adapt and find ways to treat everyone.”

Many real-life doctors and nurses have contracted COVID-19 while working with patients, and that aspect of the pandemic will be explored on Chicago Med. “One of our main characters is recovering from COVID, and it’s a continual worry among other staff members that they too could become infected,” Andrew revealed.

When it comes to the personal lives of the Chicago Med characters, Crockett and Natalie will continue to grow closer. “But we don’t want to reveal too much as there will be surprises in their relationship,” Andrew teased.

So what does this mean for Natalie and Will? “This is another pair that share deep feelings for one another,” Diane said. “Although right now they are not romantically involved, those deep feelings will not go away, and there’s always the possibility of a renewed romance going forward.”

As for Ethan and April, they’re in the friend zone for now. However, just like with Natalie and Will, there is hope for these two to reunite down the road. “They enjoy a warm friendship but are not currently involved romantically. That however could change as they both have deep feelings for one another,” Diane teased. Chicago Med season 6 will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
