Sofia Richie, 22, showed some support for Lori Loughlin‘s daughter Olivia Jade, 21, after she posted a clip of her headline-making appearance on Red Table Talk on Dec. 8, but it didn’t go over well with everyone. The young influencer went on the talk show to discuss her side of the college admissions scandal that both of her parents are doing jail time for, and after Sofia responded to her post with a positive comment, one critic wrote to her with their own shady response, which she later clapped back at.

“Yes girl!! Cant wait for what’s ahead,” Sofia wrote, referring to Olivia admitting she and her family realize they “messed up” and she “doesn’t want pity”, in the clip.

“white privilege supporting white privilege,” the critic responded along with a clown emoji.

Although the critic’s comment was quite harsh, Sofia didn’t hesitate to write back with another positive message directed at them. “we are all human, who make human mistakes. Life is too short to wish negativity on anyone. Sending you love,” her response read.

After the interaction, some Instagram users defended Sofia and even pointed out that she’s mixed race since her dad, Lionel Richie, 71, is African American. “she’s black, maybe you need to worry about yourself before spouting off misinformation like a clown,” one user wrote. “Mixed people aren’t white!” another exclaimed.

Before Sofia’s support, and criticism from others, Olivia got attention and and even caused some controversy from viewers who watched her tell-all interview. The YouTuber opened up about how she understands why people are mad over what her parents did, but feels she should have a chance for redemption.

“I feel like I deserve a second chance to redeem myself, to show I’ve grown,” she told Red Table Talk hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris. “There is no justifying or excusing what happened because what happened was wrong. And I think every single person in my family can be like, that was messed up. That was a big mistake.”

Olivia’s mom, Lori and dad, Mossimo Giannulli, are currently serving their prison sentences and have paid a combined amount of $400,000 for their participation in the college admissions scheme. Lori was sentenced to two months and began her sentence at the end of Oct., while Mossimo is scheduled to be in prison until April.
