“In the days leading up to his death, he was trying desperately to cover up a grand lie as his drug addiction spiraled, but he also knew he’d cause his own death with an overdose,” a friend of Prince’s told InTouch. “It was a heartbreaking final bow, but the fact is, he was so sick — and sick and tired of living. As far as I’m concerned, Prince didn’t die of an accidental overdose.”

So sad. Although it may not have been apparent to the public, clearly Prince was struggling with issues that were beyond even his control. Just six days before his death, his private plane had to make an emergency landing because he reportedly overdosed on Percocet, but even that wasn’t enough to stop his addiction.

As if his struggles weren’t tragic enough, Prince apparently left a suicide note, indicating that he really was trying to end his life when he took the Fentanyl that ended up killing him. His friend detailed the chilling note, describing it as “almost lyrical,” despite the fact that he was clearly indicating that he was on his way to ending his life.

Scribbled on a crumpled and ripped piece of notebook paper, the friend said the note read: “Need something to make the pain stop, even if it means ending everything somehow. It’s time to go, I didn’t mean to leave so soon… I didn’t mean to leave now. Love, Love, Love.” Talk about heartbreaking.

Prince’s note has not been released to the public, and it likely never will be. Even though he was “tired of living,” Prince’s friend insisted that the icon wouldn’t want his fans to know dark his last days were. “He wanted to be remembered as one of, if not the greatest, pop stars of all time, someone who spread love and joy through his music — not someone who’d done this to himself.”
