“I mean, I went in [to rehab] for a lot of different reasons. My biggest thing was that I was very addicted to sleeping medication,” Scott told PEOPLE. “And now, it’s fine. The only thing I find unfortunate is that I’m seeing a ton of press saying ‘Scott’s off the wagon and he’s this and he’s that and he’s all these things.'”

The truth is I never lied and said that I was never going to have a beer again,” Scott said. “I never said I was never going to have a cigarette again. I never lied and said I was never going to go to the beach again. I never lied and said I was not going to be around my friends and their girlfriends and girls and friends.”

Scott was talking with the mag about the media storm documenting his recent vacation at Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis’ home in Punta Mita, Mexico, where Scott was spotted partying hard with tons of women, and imbibing in more than a few drinks. Scott denied that he’s on some “crazy mission of destruction,” as he feels many outlets are saying, and reiterated that he’s “drinking responsibly.”

“I have a couple drinks with my friends when I’m out just like anyone else,” he said. “At the end of the day I just want to fit in and I just want to be treated like anybody else and I don’t want to be beat up every day.” Understandable! The fact of the matter is that most people are expected to stay completely clean and sober after they complete rehabilitation. That’s why it’s been so shocking to see Scott drinking and partying, because it’s implied that he’s off the wagon. But it’s apparently not the case!
