Olivia de Havilland was one of the last living legends of old Hollywood, a breathtaking actress who starred in some of the most famous films of her time. Olivia famously starred as Mellie Hamilton in Gone With The Wind in 1939, which earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the Academy Awards the following year. She was nominated for an Oscar again later, for Best Actress in Hold Back The Dawn, and finally won in 1946 for To Each His Own. She scored her second Academy Award in 1949 for her role in The Heiress.
Olivia starred in 49 films throughout her 50-year career, each more incredible than the last. She was also famous for her feud with her sister, fellow Oscar-winning actress Joan Fontaine. The feud began in the 1940s, when Joan beat Olivia for an Oscar in the same category, it lasted until 1970s despite some attempts at reconciliation.
She died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 104 on July 25, 2020.
