We’re looking back at Dr. Goodall’s life and work in photos here.
Dr. Jane Goodall lived a long and prosperous life by dedicating it to animal research and advocacy. Up until her 2025 death, Goodall was known as a celebrity scientist. She earned recognition from National Geographic in a documentary and solidified her status in the research world.
On October 1, 2025, Goodall’s eponymous institute announced she had died at the age of 91 while on her speaking tour in California. “Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world,” her institute wrote in a public statement.
Later that month, TMZ reported that her death certificate listed cardiopulmonary arrest—another term for cardiac arrest—as her official cause of death.
