Once a celebrated figure in Hollywood, having co-founded a company that produced several game-changing films, Harvey Weinstein will go down in history as one of Tinsel Town’s greatest monsters and the symbol of the entertainment industry’s systemic misogyny and sexism. Harvey, along with his brother Bob Weinstein, co-founder Miramax, which produced films like ‘The Crying Game,’ ‘Heavenly Creatures,’ ‘Shakespeare in Love,’ ‘Pulp Fiction’ and more. After leaving Miramax, Harvey and Bob founded The Weinstein Company. Then, the #MeToo movement happened.

In October 2017, The New York Times and The New Yorker reported that more than a dozen woman accused Harvey of sexually harassing or sexually assaulting them. Within the span of a month, after 80 women came forth to accuse Harvey, he was fired from his production company, suspended from the British Academy of Film and Televisions Arts, expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and his wife, Georgina Chapman, announced she was leaving him.

He was found guilty of two of five felonies in New York court in February 2020 and sentenced to 23 years. On July 20, 2021, he was extradited to Los Angeles to face further charges at a subsequent trial. His New York conviction was upheld upon appeal in June 2022.

‘Jay Z wrote in 4:44 “I’m not the man I thought I was and I better be that man for my children.” The same is true for me. I have goals that are now priorities,’ Harvey said in a statement after the flood of accusations emerged in Oct. 2017. ‘Trust me, this isn’t an overnight process. I’ve been trying to do this for 10 years and this is a wake-up call. I cannot be more remorseful about the people I hurt and I plan to do right by all of them.’
