Betty is best known as a singer/songwriter who began her music career when she started writing songs at the age of 14. She started perfoming at the age of 16 and changed her name from Jessica Newham to Betty Who, based on a song she wrote about unrequited love at the time. She grew up in Australia until her mid-teens when she moved to the U.S. to attend school in Michigan.

She went on to attend Berklee’s College of Music in Boston, MA and continued to learn about music. She released her debut single, ‘Somebody Loves You’ in 2012 followed by her debut EP, ‘The Movement’ in 2013. She eventually signed with RCA Records and released her debut studio album, ‘Take Me When You Go,’ in 2014.
