Alex Murdaugh has been convicted of the murder of his wife Maggie and son Paul since January 25. Maggie and Paul were both murdered on June 7, 2021. The lawyer, who is a member of a prominent legal family, called police to report that they had been murdered when he went to the family’s hunting lodge on June 7.
Alex was indicted and charged with both of their murders in July 2022. He has pleaded not guilty, but a jury of his peers found him guilty of the killings on Mar. 2, 2023. The next day he was sentenced to two life sentences for the crimes.
In their case, the prosecution Alex of murdering his wife and son to distract from the ongoing legal issues that he was facing due to his personal finances. His surviving son Buster has sat behind his father during the trial and testified as part of the defense.
