“Am I crazy to post this?” asked Diane von Furstenberg in a Jan. 3 Instagram post. The designer — who is a fashion icon and will forever be celebrated as the creative genius behind the wrap dress — posed in a forest green one-piece swimsuit in a mirror selfie. The picture came just days after Diane celebrated her 74th birthday, and she gifted her followers with a message of self-love and positivity: “Own your age ….it’s a proof you have lived! Love to everyone.” It was a message that was greeted with joy by some of her famous friends.

“Beautiful !!!!!” wrote Kris Jenner, 65, in the comments section, adding a “heart-eyes emoji” to the remark. D’Andra Simmons, 51, said that Diane was slaying in the swimsuit. “And you OWN IT very well!!” the Real Housewives of Dallas star commented. Model Lily Aldridge, 35, said that Diane was “Crazy Gorgeous!!!! Inside & Out,” while actress Andie McDowell, 62, said DVF was “looking fantastic.” “Beautiful,” added Kate Bosworth, 38, while YouTube.com/fashion’s Derek Blasberg, 38, said he was “Crazy in love!” Other commenters joined in the chorus, cheering on this display of “owning it” and the strike against ageism.

“You know, I am at an age where I need to use my voice and my experience,” Diane said to Vanity Fair in April 2020, as she was launching her new podcast series, InCharge with DVF. “It’s intimate conversations with successful women about the journey of life and survival,” von Furstenberg explained to Vanity Fair, with a host of glossy A-List guests including Karlie Kloss and Priyanka Chopra. “The great thing about podcasts is you don’t need to worry about make-up or hair, and therefore you can have much more intimate conversations because people aren’t looking at what you’re wearing and what you look like. You can really go into the depths of it.”

“There is no better way to inspire than storytelling,” she told Vanity Fair, and according to The New York Times, she’s working on a new book (tentatively titled Own It) that will also help inspire the next fashion icon on his or her journey. “And what is most inspiring is not ‘ohh I am a success, and I did this, and I did that’ and so on. What is inspiring is to know that everybody with success has failures, has challenges, has moments of insecurity.”
