The Epic ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Theme Song Is All Thanks To Ashley Benson

The Pretty Little Liars filmed the pilot in Vancouver with I. Marlene King, 55, Ashley Benson, 27, Shay Mitchell, 30, Troian Bellisario, 31, Sasha Pieterse, 21, and Lucy Hale, 27. While they were there filming, Ashley played a song that stayed with them throughout their 7 seasons on the show. “On the way back from that shoot, that was when you played in the car what would become our theme song,” Troian said to Ashley during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “You had played it for all of us, and you were like, ‘I want to show it to Marlene because I really think it could be a great theme song.’”

And that’s how the PLL theme song came to be! “Secret” has been the perfect theme song for the Pretty Little Liars opening sequence. It’s hard to believe that the song was written for the show! The song was released in 2007! PLL didn’t premiere until 3 years later!

The show only has a few more episodes left in its final season, with PLL gearing up for the big A.D. reveal in the series finale, which airs June 27. Over the years, the girls have become like family to each other, and it hasn’t been easy to say goodbye. However, they don’t believe the show is ending too soon for their characters. “I think we’re ending it at the most perfect time and honestly, there couldn’t have been a better ending for this,” Shay told EW.

Pretty Little Liars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
