Ariana Grande, 23, was literally floored by seeing Beyonce, 34, get into formation at the MTV Video Music Awards. After performing “Side to Side” with Nicki Minaj, 33, Ariana was back in the audience to take in the rest of the show with brother Frankie Grande, 33, and new boyfriend Mac Miller, 24. She’s not dumb; she’s not going to miss Queen Bey take the stage!
Like all of us, Ariana couldn’t handle it when Beyonce gave a haunting performance of most of her iconic Lemonade album. At one point during the 16 minute-long VMAs takeover, Ariana was spotted cheering in the crowd, jumping up and down and falling to her knees in praise of the queen. She gets up quickly and wipes away tears, gasping at the beauty unfolding before her. Amen!
Beyonce’s performance left the audience, both at Madison Square Garden, and at home, breathless, from its sheer beauty and power. In the opening number, “Pray You Catch Me,” Beyonce appeared in a massive white robe, as she sang sorrowfully. Surrounded by her dancers in angelic white costumes, each woman appeared to be shot, and fell to the floor as she continued singing. Her medley of songs from Lemonade (like “Sorry” and “Hold Up”) went on from there, each a different type of performance, and each a stunning work of art. At one point, she set the stage on fire, and smashed one of MTV’s cameras with a baseball bat!

Beyonce won the Video of the Year award for her powerful “Formation” music video, which she dropped as a surprise prior to releasing her entire legendary Lemonade album. Beyonce dedicated the award to the people of New Orleans, the focus of the video (and where she filmed it); she thanked husband Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy (who looked like a gorgeous princess, by the way!), as well.
