Claire and Brianna stay longer in Scotland than initially expected, so Roger takes Brianna to Fort William. They hang out for a few days and eventually discover the truth about their parentage. If you’ve read the books, you know that Roger is actually a MacKenzie. He’s a descendant of Geillis and Dougal’s secret love child.

Brianna is the daughter of Claire and Jamie Fraser. Before the Battle of Culloden, a pregnant Claire went back through the stones. Jamie and Claire were forced to part to save their unborn baby. Frank Randall raised Brianna as his own daughter, even though he knew that she was not his.

The casting of Brianna and Roger has been a hot topic of conversation since the show started. They play key roles in the rest of Diana Gabaldon’s books and become a crucial couple in the show. The show definitely found the perfect Roger. Richard Rankin comes off as intelligent and witty. He’s also very good looking with his beard and piercing blue eyes. He’s no Jamie, but he’ll do. Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna, needs more time to flesh out her character. Her Brianna is a tad cold at times, but I’m not here to judge based on one episode.

The show’s core will always be Jamie and Claire, but it’s going to be fun to see Brianna and Roger’s relationship grow. Outlander will return for season 3 in 2017.
