“I’m a fighter and always have been,” Debbie, who is the mother of Michael’s eldest children, Paris and Prince Michael, 19, said of her diagnosis. Debbie may be a fighter, but luckily, she won’t have to face it all alone as Paris and her mother have reconnected! After hearing of her mother’s illness, Paris broke the silent treatment and contacted Debbie in order to proclaim her love during the tough time, according to TMZ. And in addition to texting “I love you,” Paris has reportedly agreed to meet face to face following the surgery. It is unclear if Prince has also reached out to Debbie.

Although the communication was kept fairly short, this is a major step for both of them. Paris reportedly broke off all contact with her estranged mother since May 2013. And while the two initially grew close following Michael’s untimely death in 2009, the relationship quickly fell apart, after Debbie accused the Jackson family of causing a riff between she and her daughter.

Debbie previously worried she had cancer in Mar. 2014, but after being diagnosed with the auto-immune disease, sarcoidosis, doctors thought she was cancer-free, according to People. But unfortunately, years later doctors revealed that she had developed cancer in her breasts.

This is definitely devastating news, but hopefully there will be a happier ending when it comes to her relationship with Paris. Their latest communication is definitely a small step toward getting back what they had before, but hopefully it has opened the door for more communication to come in the future.
