Do you spend a lot of time wondering what it would be like to be friends with Anna Kendrick? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Indie darling Katie Nehra not only got the chance to be Anna’s friend, she was also her roommate in their action rom-com Mr. Right. So, of course, I had to ask… what was it like being Anna’s friend?

“Oh my God, she was great! She’s such a pro. Just being with her you learn a lot, she just knows her stuff,” Katie gushed EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com at the film’s red carpet premiere in New York City on Wednesday, April 6. “We had so much fun, and she’s a great improviser, so we would improvise in scenes and that’s always nice.”

You’ll be surprised to learn that Anna’s character in the film, Martha, is a little off her rocker in the first 20 minutes or so. Katie’s character, Sophie, is the cool, calm, and collected voice of reason to Martha’s post-heartbreak insanity — at least until Sam Rockwell‘s character, Mr. Right/Francis, shows up.

Katie further shared that their director, Paco Cabezas, gave the entire cast tons of room to flex their hilarious improvisational skills. “He actually gave us a lot. Like the scene where I’m attacked by the cat, we improvised a lot,” Katie explained, referring to one of the film’s funnier scenes when Martha tries to wrangle an extremely violent kitten despite Sophie’s better advice.

“[Anna]’s great, and Sam is too,” she continued. “It’s great to improvise with someone who can hit it back.”

Mr. Right is available on VOD and in select theaters starting Friday, April 8. Make sure you check it out, because it’s one of the most bizarrely fantastic films you’ll ever see!
