Die-hard ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans are going to see a familiar face on the March 3 episode, when Meredith and Derek’s very first patient, Katie Bryce, makes a comeback. It’s been 11 years since fans first met Katie, so in case you don’t recall who she is, find out what you need to know, here!
While watching the March 3 episode of Grey’s Anatomy, you may ask yourself — “Who is Katie Bryce?” According to the episode’s description, she’s Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) very first patient and she’ll be returning to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital and seeking some more medical care. To find out what happened to her after starring in the series’ pilot, click below.
During the pilot episode, Katie (Skyler Shaye) was introduced to both Meredith and Derek. She was a 16-year-old pageant girl who came to the hospital with a twisted ankle after suffering a rhythmic gymnastics accident. Then, Katie shockingly started having seizures and no one could figure out why. That is until Meredith, who was an intern at the time, remembered Katie’s gymnastics accident, so they examined her head after Meredith suggested her fall may have caused an aneurysm. And she was right! Derek operated on her immediately and Meredith’s discovery saved her life.
Interestingly, Katie’s CT scan was among those Derek hung in the elevator when he proposed to Meredith in Season 5. We’re not quite sure why Katie’s returning in tonight’s episode, but her presence will surely drudge up some emotions, as Derek is no longer with us — he died in Season 11. What we do know, however, is that Derek’s sister, Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), will be the one treating Katie this time around. According to Just Jared, Katie is being admitted with a new aneurysm.
